Pinterest Marketing Tips & Tactics

While Pinterest might have seen the likes of Instagram and even Tik Tok pass it by, many fail to realise the potential of this social platform, which is gaining numerous brands significant amounts of traffic.

There are actually more than 450 million active users every month on the platform, while the audience is older than platforms such as Tik Tok, meaning they tend to have a higher disposable income, making them an interesting audience for a number of industries.

Below are a number of tips and tactics you can adopt for your brand which will help it to gain a greater amount of followers, a greater amount of visitors through to your website and, in turn, a greater amount of sales.

1) Keep Brand Consistency

Make sure the profile matches your brand imagery on other platforms, so visitors are 100% certain it is your brand. This means a matching logo and a similar bio, while you should also verify with your website.

2) Create Mobile-Friendly Imagery

Your images should be vertical as 85% of users on Pinterest enter the website via a mobile device. You should also try to include a text overlay to help communicate the message to your audience through a captivating headline.

3) Experiment With Regular Pins

Many brands just post once per day, as this is the best tactic for a number of other social platforms, however Pinterest runs on a very different model. Through experimentation, I have found that you can heavily increase your engagement and followers by posting multiple times per day, going up to 10 times per day.

Just make sure to spread out those pins for optimal results, such as an hour between each one, rather than posting them all in one go.

4) Keep On Topic

One mistake some brands make, especially if they have a social media team member that hasn’t been offered strict guidance, is to post a subject area they’re interested in. Your followers follow your brand as they’re interested in your industry or your subject area, so try not to float away from this subject as you may lose followers or see the engagement drop.

An example is with a wedding Pinterest account, which occasionally posted football content, which didn’t fit with the rest of the page and made it look messy and confusing.

5) Build A Pinterest Community

If you build a strong community then they’re much more likely to regularly engage with your content. Always look at comments as a two way form of communication, make sure to respond and try to interact with others on the platform through the branded account.

You should also join boards related to your industry, while you could also consider setting up your own community board.

6) Research Your Industry & Posts

The more you can learn about posts on the related industry on Pinterest, the better you can learn from others successes and mistakes.

If you run a fashion brand, look into the category on Pinterest and see which posts do better, work out what they write and how often they post.

There are a few industries that do the best on Pinterest, meaning you should certainly be present on the platform if this relates to you, which are weddings, food/drink, fashion, DIY & Interior Design, art and hair/beauty.

7) Add The Pin Button

If you have a website with visually stunning imagery, or pictures that people might want to share, then you should certainly consider adding the Pin button. Visitors will be able to pin images and you can always communicate with them later via the platform.
