Eve Bell is Founder of reusable nappy company Baba+Boo. Over the years they’ve saved thousands of single-use plastic nappies from going to landfill, but in the current times of uncertainty, they decided to use their products to help those in need. Eve began her career as a buyer. A career that came to end when she became mum in 2008. Having decided that she didn’t want to leave him, and with another baby on the way, Eve made the decision to leave working life and be a stay at home mum. This was by far the hardest thing she’d ever done, having two babies in quick succession was so so hard.
So, as if she wasn’t under enough pressure, she started a business as well! Eve had developed a real passion for cloth nappies so this was the perfect business. From a young age, her dad instilled in her the importance of reducing, reusing and recycling which is why she found throwing away single-use nappies so tough. Baba+Boo started as a passion project which has spiralled into something which is truly helping to make a difference to people and the planet.
That’s why when Eve saw images of NHS workers struggling to buy nappies after their shifts, she felt compelled to act. Baba+Boo made the decision to donate 3,500 of its nappies to the brave NHS staff who are on the frontline working tirelessly to battle COVID-19 and help keep us safe. Eve Bell, Founder of Baba+Boo comments: “ After reaching out to our customers for their help putting us in touch with NHS Trusts, we were blown away by the stories we heard from struggling parents. In these uncertain times, it’s been truly heartwarming seeing communities come together and support one another, and we wanted to offer our support in any way we can. Over the last few weeks, we’ve seen a surge in orders as many parents turn to re-usables, and it’s been amazing to hear how they’re helping to make some lives a little more convenient in these uncertain times.”
So far, the company is sending boxes to 30 NHS Trusts throughout the UK, with more to come, including Great Ormond Street Hospital and Royal Gwent Hospital in Newport. Eve also ensured she was active online to offer help and advice to parents who were new to re-usables. With many parents faced with empty shelves at the supermarket, the company saw a surge of orders as people turned to re-usables in these difficult times. Eve and the team were there to offer support and advice to help these parents get started with re-usables, and make this transition as simple as possible.
