Focus on Australian Business Women Game Changers: Anne McKeown

Am I a successful Australian Business Woman? Well that depends on how you measure success!

Others have said I am successful because they see the material possessions I have:
home with a water view, convertible car, overseas holidays etc…

But I don’t measure my success in dollars and by what I ‘have’ externally, but by how I ‘feel’ internally.

At the age of 50, after many years as a housewife, my kids were leaving school, my husband was travelling a lot for work. I was in the depths of menopause. I felt directionless and fearful of the future.

I wanted to do something useful, but believed I had no real skills and my confidence was at an all-time low. Technology had moved on so quickly and left me behind. I knew I had two choices (in every situation we always have at least two choices!) I could wallow in pity and spend my days moaning with other women who were feeling the same way, or I could interrupt this negative outlook, do something different and be a positive role model for my daughters Maris & Megan (the 2Ms in 2Mpower).

I know everything starts with a decision, so I decided to make it my mission to empower other women. To see my age as a positive (years of wisdom) instead of a negative (old and useless).

I started a local Meetup Group (which now has over 500 members) https://www.meetup.com/Sydney-Women-Self-Empowerment-Meetup/
and began sharing NLP Mindset Techniques that I had learned in the 1990s. Teaching others helped me enormously. I researched and learned and grew. I developed a new daily routine. I enjoyed a sense of belonging and making a difference. I learned technology skills. I updated all my coaching certificates. I felt alive once more.

Many of the women who attended my group asked to be coached individually and so my business was born. I didn’t have a professional office or consultation room, but that didn’t matter, I just coached clients at my home.

Over the years I learned basic business skills, decoded digital marketing, created an online coaching course, wrote a book “Take Back Control of Your Life Now”, and been invited as an inspirational speaker at various corporate events.

In order to continue my own personal growth and help other women, I challenged myself to create a process for success. A process that was simple, sustainable and balanced. A step-by-step way to help others master their mind, communicate more clearly, build inner confidence, create goals that set the heart on fire and an implementation plan that produces real results, as well as having fun with family and friends. A tall order!

For months on end I tested lots of different modalities for mental, emotional and physical wellbeing. I noted all trials and errors; wins and failures. I kept what worked and got rid of what didn’t and that is how my process for success was born.
I’ve taken many women through this process called Reignite Your Spark and they have all benefited. My greatest success is witnessing their success.

I was a finalist in the Business xCellence Awards 2019.
And I was awarded the Inspiration Award 2019 by Nextdoor.com for  “going above and beyond to improve my local community.”

Although these are wonderful; for me ‘real success’ in any industry is:
Being open and willing to learn and grow
Not giving up when the going gets tough
Not allowing age to be a barrier
Being kind to yourself and others, even when you feel frustrated.
